pitt&sherry selected for Beaconsfield Gold Mine pre-feasibility study, aims to get Beaconsfield Mine back into production

pitt&sherry are pleased to announce we will be supporting NQ Minerals in their work to reopen the Beaconsfield Gold Mine.

NQ Minerals acquired Beaconsfield in 2020 with plans to reopen the mine in northern Tasmania.

Our team will be conducting a pre-feasibility study to calculate the ore reserves and provide an economic model for the project. The study will examine the previous resource of 1.4Mt grading 10.3gpt for 483,000oz, and combined with metallurgical work, should help determine restart costs.

pitt&sherry has a long history with the Beaconsfield Gold Mine, providing support when it was in operation up to the mine’s closure in 2012. To be selected to conduct this study is a testament to pitt&sherry’s historical relationship and cumulative knowledge of the mine’s past operations.

pitt&sherry’s Principal Mining Geotechnical Engineer, Peter Hills says; “from 1996 until 2012 I had the opportunity to be involved in the reopening, operation and closure of the historical Beaconsfield Gold Mine. Eight years on and I have the opportunity to be involved in reopening it a second time. I’m looking forward to the challenges it will present, fully aware that 16 years of site knowledge won’t always provide the answers.”

David Atchison, pitt&sherry’s Mining Sector Lead comments “the pre-feasibility study is a significant step towards the reopening of Beaconsfield. We’re thrilled to be supporting NQ Minerals, and to be able to bring our knowledge of the mine’s past operations to the table.”
