Devonport Living City
The Living City Project was a plan by the Devonport City Council to revitalise the Devonport city centre, located on the north coast of Tasmania. The Project included a large Civic and Retail Precinct including the new Council Headquarters, public library, Convention Centre and retail and dining. The project also include a Waterfront precinct comprising a Hotel, pedestrian bridge playground and outdoor public space.
Project aim
To complete concept designs, detailed designs and engineering assessments so that the development could be approved and built.
What we did
pitt&sherry were engaged by Council since 2012 to undertake a variety of tasks, commencing with an engineering feasibility study for the planning concept.
Over the life of the project pitt&sherry progressively worked with Council through the concept and tender design phases of the project, undertaking the civil design works of the car park, pedestrian plaza area, open air food hall, internal pedestrianised service roads, and the stormwater design.
We have also undertaken the traffic assessments for the project to determine the impact on vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists, and how they integrate into the existing CBD. We have also conducted the geotechnical investigations, and were the building surveyors for the project.
Outcomes
pitt&sherry provided concept and detailed designs, provided advice regarding the best options for pedestrian crossings and provided various assessment reports.
Construction of the Devonport Living City precinct is complete and has transformed the Devonport CBD.
