pitt&sherry are experienced in strategic planning for mine decommissioning and rehabilitation. 

Our team includes environmental scientists, geotechnical and mining engineers plus geologists, planners, economists and spatial management professionals. We have successfully undertaken mine closure planning and implementation in accordance with a broad range of Commonwealth and State regulations.

Stakeholder involvement:

  • The pitt&sherry team includes stakeholder and community engagement professionals. They routinely manage communications with the public and key stakeholders to assist in the delivery of major infrastructure, environmental and mining projects across Australia 


  • Our team has experience in spatial planning through the use of state of the art software for 3D modelling, mine management and planning – Our expertise includes geotechnical stability, water, soil and contaminant chemistry, water and other volumetric assessments, engineering analysis and environmental management

Financial provisioning:

  • We routinely analyse and advise on strategically optimal solutions for delivery of progressive and end of life costs


  • We have experienced engineers, scientists and technical staff to enable practical delivery of solutions. Our services extend from simple advice and assistance to complete management and implementation

Standards / ongoing monitoring and relinquishment:

  • Our team routinely delivers and implements solutions for ongoing monitoring and management of decommissioning and rehabilitation working towards successful relinquishment of the site 

We have been involved in a range of mine closures from hard rock underground to large-scale open pit operations down to minor quarrying operations.

  • Bass Metals Ltd – Underground Lead/Zinc Fossey – Tas design and supervision of installation of a significant plug to the portal accessing underground operations
  • Cement Australia – Railton limestone mining and cement processing facility – Decommissioning and rehabilitation management planning
  • MMG – Hercules Mine – closure and rehabilitation planning
  • Grange Resources – Savage River remediation programs – independent program review
